Floribeth Mora presents Pope Francis with a relic.

Popes John Paul II and John XXII were declared Saints this past Sunday in the Vatican. Hundreds of thousands of people gathered around as Pope Francis canonized the two deceased Popes. An estimated 800,000 pilgrims made their way to the Vatican that day. To become a Saint, two miracles must happen after the death of the said Pope. Floribeth Mora being cured by Pope John Paul II of an aneurism was considered to be the second necessary miracle. Using a piece of skin from John and a container of blood from John Paul, relics of the two Popes were created and placed near the alter during the ceremony. 715 New Planets Discovered by NASA

NASA’s Keplar spacecraft has detected a whopping 715 new planets that is a number almost as high as the 1,000 planets of which have been discovered in our galaxy previously. Strictly including planets that may be able to support life, the “habitable zone” includes 4 of these 715 new planets. Planets in this zone are the right distance from a star and therefore have a moderate temperature that might allow liquid water.

305 different stars are orbited by these newly found planets. The Kepler space telescope used a new technique to make these discoveries; more are expected to arrive. These 715 planets are only from the first 2 years of Kepler’s journey and could be just the beginning.

What is this new technique for discovering planets you ask? Scientists are using “verification by multiplicity” in which probability rather than guessing is used to search for planets. 95% of the planets discovered by Kepler are smaller than the size of Neptune and 4 times the size of Earth. 3 of the planets in the habitable zone are TWICE the size of Earth.

Could you imagine living anywhere else besides Earth?

Plants Fatal to Dogs

Spring is here and so are the annual flowers! Every time I shop at HEB I am sure to check out the flower and garden section. I do not know why I did not do this before…it is so much fun! Luckily, I have only boughten a few before realizing that I need to check to make sure my dogs will not be harmed by any of them.

Below is a list of plants fatal to dogs. Seems like there are countless plants and flowers that will harm a dog; this is overwhelming and almost impossible to keep track of. Therefore, I only included the plants that are extremely fatal.

1. Yew

Used an ornamental shrub. Can be easily identified by their cuplike berries. Most adult dogs will not care to snack on this plant, but death is immediate if they do.

2. Oleander

3. Rosary Pea

4. Cherry (All Types)

Leaves and bark are what kills a dog, although the fruit can be harmful.

5. Water Hemlock

Found in swamps and fields. These can be fatal to both humans and dogs.

The point of this article is not to create unrest, but to remind dog owners like myself to think about researching plants before buying them 🙂

1. Green Onions– simple take a regular onion once it has started to sprout green hair. Set this in a cup of water and and wait for it to grow!

2. Potatoes– once that potato you meant to eat 2 weeks ago has began to grow eyes all around, simply cut off a big chunk of the potato and throw it in a pot of dirt.

Image3. Celery– use the base of the plant and place it in a cup of water for about a week. Once it has began to grow leaves you can plant it in soil.
